Representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Defense, Hon. Babajimi Benson has been conferred with the chieftancy title Otun of Ikorodu Division.
Otun is a chieftancy title denoting the right hand man of the Ikorodu monarchs.
The conferment was made by His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangbure of Ikorodu and Chairman of the Ikorodu Divisonal Chieftancy Committee during the 50th birthday anniversary of Benson.
The event which held on Tuesday at the Ikorodu Musical Village had in attendance traditional chiefs such as Oba Akeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Bashir Sotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, the Adegburuwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali to mention a few alongside other senators, members of the House of Representatives, council chairmen and chieftains of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
His wife, Jumoke Benson, also got conferred with the title of Yeye Otun of Ikorodu Division.
Ayangbure of Ikorodu said that the decision was a unanimous agreement among the Obas in Ikorodu.
“Initially, the title was supposed to be the Otun of Ikorodu Kingdom, but before I could make the pronouncement, other monarchs in Ikorodu division said the title should cover the entire division. As a result, we have changed the title from the Otun of Ikorodu Kingdom to Otun of Ikorodu division.
“The entire Obas have also approved the conferment of the Yeye of Ikorodu division on Mrs Benson.”
The Ayangbure also revealed that the Obas are solidly behind Benson going for a third term in office, reeling out his achievements as the basis of their support.
“He has facilitated construction of many roads, buildings and rehabilitation of schools, empowering the youths and establishing a radio station (106.1 FM) among many others.
“All the traditional rulers are benefitting from his good gestures because he has been supporting the royal institution in the division. What we needed to be doing now is that we should be praying for him to secure the third term.’
