Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the Ikorodu Chess Club joined forces to organize an engaging chess training session aimed at children and young individuals. The event, specifically designed for beginners of the game, took place on Saturday, June 3rd at the Ijede LCDA Event Hall.
Distinguished guests, including Mr. Koleosho Ahmed Owolabi, the representative of Lagos State Athletes and a renowned Nigeria Para Table Tennis Athlete, commended the efforts of Ijede LCDA for organizing such a remarkable program. Mr. Owolabi, in his speech, praised the chess class as an invaluable opportunity to introduce children and youths to one of the finest and life-changing skills.
Emmanuel Adetolani and Emmanuel Atoloye, both esteemed members of the Ikorodu Chess Club, took turns in conducting the training session, imparting the basic knowledge and skills of the game of chess to the enthusiastic participants.

Under the leadership of Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, the administration of Ijede LCDA aims to create a dedicated space where chess enthusiasts can gather, play games, learn from one another, and enhance their skills. This goal will be achieved through regular meetings, tournaments, and social events that foster a thriving chess community.
The training session concluded with eight participants demonstrating exceptional skill and emerging as winners. On behalf of the Executive Chairman, Mr. Koleosho presented the young participants with certificates of participation and gifts, acknowledging their dedication and enthusiasm.

In addition to Mr. Koleosho and the esteemed guests, Honorable Oyedele Adenuga, Supervisor for Youths and Sports, and members of the Agric and Social Development department were also present at the event. Their presence further highlighted the significance of promoting sports and educational activities for the development of the community’s youth.
The chess training organized by Ijede LCDA in collaboration with the Ikorodu Chess Club served as a stepping stone for children and young people to acquire valuable skills and broaden their horizons. It was a testament to the commitment of the local government and organizations in empowering the youth and nurturing their talents.
