The Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATON), Ikorodu branch, has reacted to the boat mishap that happened in Ikorodu on Wednesday morning.
It will be recalled Ikorodu News reported that a 20-seat boat capsized at the Ipakodo ferry terminal almost immediately after it took off.
Two female passengers were confirmed dead at the hospital they were rushed to, with 15 others rescued alive.
In reaction to the mishap, ATBOWOTAN said in a press release that it has begun engagement with LASWA to uncover what led to the mishap.
It expressed its displeasure over the development, stating that it had reached out in condolence to the families of the victims.
The statement reads, “We have commenced engagement with LASWA and other regulators to investigate the cause of the mishap and ensure improved safety on the waterways.
“We are also committed to the continued provision of emergency care and aid facilities for passengers plying the jetties.”
