Residents have called the attention of the government to students who roam the streets during school hours.
They demanded that there should be a special task force to check truancy acts among school children who will leave school during school hours and indulge in frivolities.
Omawunmi Oladipupo who wondered which arm of the government is responsible for checking the excesses of the students likened the erring students to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) whenever she sees them roaming the streets.
“It’s so sad, I wonder which arm of government is responsible for checkmating these schools, most especially public schools, and it is not limited to Ikorodu. You see secondary students looking tattered and unkept, wandering around by 10am, 11am and where you even hear them speak, you’ll begin to wonder if they are a member of NURTW or a student.
“The authorities in charge should do something about this as soon as possible,” she said on an Ikorodu Social Media Group.
Adding to his voice was Oshikoya Babatunde, who on his part, recalled the good old days when there was always a monitoring team driving around Ikorodu to ensure students were in class.
“Gone are the days when the SMC monitoring team drove around Ikorodu to ensure students were in class when study was on.
“Our government has bastardised the educational system, and nothing works in any government institutions. “
This reporter today saw a boy along the Itaoluwo road and asked him why he was not in school, and the boy who goes by the name Fawaz, said that he would be flogged in school because his parents did not attend the Parents Teachers Meeting the previous day.”
