The Incumbent Representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Honourable Babajimi Benson has defeated his opponent, Alhaja Mistura Adekoya by 89 votes to emerge as the APC flagbearer for Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
The election which was held amid security presence at the Ita-Elewa Mini Stadium on Friday began by 6:35pm with the two aspirants present at venue alongside 90 delegates who casted their votes.
The Returning Officer announced the result after an open count of ballot papers, and Hon. Benson ended up with 89 votes while his opponent, Alhaja Adekoya got one vote.
This means that Hon. Benson will be seeking his third-term in office when the general elections come up in 2023.
Reacting to his victory, Hon. Benson expressed his happiness and vowed to not stop bringing development to the people of Ikorodu.
He said he was going to work with his opponent, Alhaja Adekoya to make Ikorodu great.
His words, “Firstly, I want to thank my sister for being courageous in picking up the form to contest against me. I am very proud of her. Secondly, I want to thank Ikorodu people for given me the assurance and trust to represent them again.
“I also like to thank my party, also Prince Abidoun Ogunleye and all our GAC members. Today is a very happy day for me.
“I have never stopped in bringing development to Ikorodu. I am going to continue and intend finishing this present tenure next year very strong because we still have lots of projects that will add values and make Ikorodu proud.”
On working with Alhaja Adekoya, he said, “I am also going to collaborate with her because she has some lofty programmes which I will like to tap into, and together we will make Ikorodu great.”
On her part, Alhaja Adekoya assured Hon. Benson of her support while congratulating him on his victory.
She said, “He is my friend and brother. He has been working fervently for the development of Ikorodu and Lagos State. I congratulate him.
“I will support him in any way and which ever way that he wants. I will stand by him.”
