Residents have been urged to ensure that they keep a cleaner environment by disposing of their refuse properly.
Speaking at the commemoration of 2022 World Environmental Day at the General Hospital, Ijede, Environmental Officer, Mrs. Rita Ehinmetan stated that it is what we give to the environment that the environment gives back to us.
Mrs. Ehinmetan stated that disposing of refuse in drainages as seen among residents is illegal and harmful to health of habitats of the environment.

She said that making our environment habitable should be a sustained priority as it will prevent the spread of germs and diseases in the community.
She said, “We must continually put in efforts towards making our environment better for us by ensuring we don’t relent or rest on our oars in keeping it clean at all times”,
“Residents should make use of the PSP operators in their areas to ensure they dispose of their refuse properly and not through drainages and canals to prevent the outbreak of diseases.”
Speaking further, she urged residents to prevent pollution by reducing carbon emissions to avoid depletion of the ozone area and protect the water bodies in the environment.
She also encouraged the planting of trees.
