Residents of the Ikorodu community have reacted to the arrest of 140 suspected Yahoo Boys by the operatives of Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
On Thursday, the EFCC announced it has carried out a raid at Lakers Lounge Hotel, Ipakodo and Bar and De Butlers Hotel, Igbe and arrested140 suspected internet fraudsters found there.
A man who identified himself as Samuel stated that the number is a minority compared to the many that are in Ikorodu.
“You will see small boys lodging in hotels in Ikorodu, what are they doing? Yahoo.
“So that number is not a surprise to me. It is a small number. They are all over Ikorodu.”
A source who chose to remain anonymous stated that one of the hotels where the raid was carried out is notorious for Yahoo-Boys and has no doubt that most of the boys arrested are Yahoo Boys.
He said that the owners of the hotel have alliances with these Yahoo-Boys of which explains the patronage it gets from the group.
“I know that hotel very well. It is always frequented by Yahoo-Boys. The owners of the hotel abet these guys’ illegal activities, that is why you find most of them there.
“There are other places like that in Ikorodu where you find them but I will not like to mention names,” he said.
Another resident, Ejiofor Samson expressed pessimism at prosecution, stating that most of them will be allowed free.
“This is not the first time we would be hearing of such arrest. Most of the time, these guys will bribe them and come back to the street. And that will be it,” Samson said.
Some other residents told our correspondent he doubted if all the 140 boys arrested are Yahoo-Boys, stating that EFCC has a penchant for arresting innocent boys just to extort them.
