General Hospital, Ikorodu has emphasized the solidarity role blood donation plays in the society.
It stated that it saves lives, encouraging residents to take to donating their blood.

This was stated in the hospital’s commemoration of the World Blood Donor Day where it took a Blood Donation Drive and Awareness Walk to Ikorodu Garage.
Speaking, Medical Director/CEO, Dr. Taiwo Hassan said that the blood donation has helped save lives during medical emergencies.
He encouraged members of the public to take a pledge to donating their blood as “it is a gift to human life, capable of creating a million smiles.”
Mrs. Yemisi Adegoke of the department of Medical Laboratory appreciated blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood, adding that “donating one pint of blood can save more than one person’s life.”

The World Blood Donor Day is initiated by World Health Organization (WHO) and aims to raise global awareness of the need for safe transfusion of blood and blood products while celebrating the critical contributions made by voluntary and unpaid blood donors.
This year’s slogan is tagged, “Donating Blood is an act of solidarity.”
