From July 1st commercial motorcyclist will not be allowed to carry more than one passanger in Ikorodu, says the executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina.
According to Adeshina, the regulation became necessary due to the growing concerns of crimes being perpetrated using motorcycles.
He said this during the Security Meeting with stakeholders and the Ikorodu Local Government held at the Ikorodu Local government secretariat hall on Wednesday.
“I want to beg your pardon to say that from the 1st Of June, 2022, riders of Okada will no more carry two passengers on a bike, it has to be one on a bike in Ikorodu. The Police and other security agencies will assist us to enforce that. Henceforth, from the aforementioned date, any bike carrying two passengers stands to be arrested.
“I want to implore the good people of Ikorodu local government to support our numerous security agencies to fight against insecurities across our vicinities”.
Adesina revealed that the local government has raised 50 local vigilantes of which 20 among them will be drafted into the Local Task Force, with the remaining 30 to operate within the local communities.
He said this is in line to combat the security challenges bedeviling the community.
The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights Cordinator, Ikorodu Unit, Musa Shakiru stated that abandoned houses are contributing factors to the issue of crimes in the state.
“Abandoned houses in IKORODU also contributed to the issues affecting us in Ikorodu Division, these are the hidden places for the gender homeless criminals. If the baales, Chiefs, The High Chiefs including all The Obas across Ikorodu Division can get that done, it will kick against the criminal activity.”
Present at the meeting was Baale of Ojogbe, Chief Olukayode Olomo, Lagos State Neighborhood Watch, politicians and other security agents alike.
