Lagos East Senator, Mukhail Abiru, has admonished young tech enthusiasts to harness the massive opportunities in the tech space.
Abiru, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, made the call on Saturday while delivering a keynote address at the 2023 Hackfest, organized by GenZtechies, at the Multipurpose Hall of the University of Lagos, Akoka.
He shared his experience in the banking sector, where he has worked for over three decades, and traced how technology has gradually revolutionized the industry. He noted that the tech space is constantly evolving and presents many opportunities for young people to thrive.
Abiru urged young tech enthusiasts to be creative and innovative, and to strive for excellence in their respective fields. He also challenged them to make quality contributions to the nation’s policy development process.

The senator commended the courage and resilience of the promoters of the GenZ Hackfest, and assured them of his continued support for initiatives that provide platforms for young Nigerians to thrive in tech.
Eniola Osabiya, the founder and convener of GenZtechies, thanked Senator Abiru and other sponsors for their support of the annual event. He said that the senator’s passion for sustainable empowerment through human capital development is exemplary.
Mr. Deji Abisola, the Consultant on the SAIL Innovation Lab, expressed optimism that the lab will continue to partner with GenZtechies and other youth-led tech initiatives in the ecosystem.

The Hackfest is an annual event that brings together young tech enthusiasts to compete in a hackathon. The goal of the event is to promote innovation and creativity among young people, and to provide them with a platform to showcase their skills.
The 2023 Hackfest was a success, with over 1,000 young Nigerians participating. The event was sponsored by SAIL Innovation Lab, the Lagos East Senatorial District, and other private organizations.

The winners of the hackathon were awarded cash prizes and other prizes. They were also given the opportunity to meet with Senator Abiru and other mentors to discuss their ideas and business plans.
