Ikorodu, Lagos State – In a bid to enhance human capacity and ensure excellence in healthcare delivery, the management of General Hospital Ikorodu recently hosted an orientation and induction programme for newly employed personnel. The event, organized by the Lagos State Health Service Commission, took place last week and saw the participation of various categories of staff, including consultants, medical officers, pharmacists, nurses, technicians, health attendants, optometrists, and other cadres absorbed into the service at GH Ikorodu between April 2022 and the present date.
With the theme for this year’s programme titled “Choices, Changes, and Chances,” the orientation and induction session aimed to equip the new recruits with essential knowledge and skills necessary for their roles in the healthcare sector. The event, held at the His Glory Waiting Area of General Hospital Ikorodu, featured several sessions covering different aspects of the public service rules, such as recruitment, confirmation, resignation, leave policies, and career enhancement opportunities. The participants were also enlightened on the principles outlined in the Service Charter.

Dr. Taiwo Hassan, the Medical Director and CEO of General Hospital Ikorodu, addressed the staff during the event, emphasizing the importance of professionalism in their duties. Dr. Hassan encouraged the newly inducted employees to uphold ethical standards and avoid engaging in corrupt practices that could tarnish the hospital’s reputation. He urged them to consistently demonstrate empathy towards patients and cautioned against any behavior that could harm the hospital’s image.
Prominent figures in the hospital administration served as facilitators for the programme. Miss Sekinat Sarumi, the Head of Admin & HR, and Pharm. Catherine Martins, the Head of Service Charter, led various sessions, sharing their expertise and providing valuable insights. Additionally, external resource persons, including Mr. A.A. Alabi, Mrs. Kemi Bawa-Allah, and Mrs. Taiwo Awonuga, contributed their knowledge and experiences to enrich the orientation and induction programme.
