Gateway United on Sunday advanced their hopes for topflight football next season, defeating Ikorodu City FC 2-0 at the Otunba Dipo Dina Int’l Stadium, Ijebu-Ode.
Goals from Oronsaye James and Iwunde Chidozie proved enough to see the Toyin Ayinla led-side get past the Oga Boys.
A couple of chances fell to Ikorodu City FC during the game but Gateway United goalkeeper, Araromi Ibukun was on ground to deny them.
The win means that Gateway United has extended its lead over Ikorodu City FC on the table to nine points, sitting in 2nd position close to league leaders, Bendel Insurance.
Speaking to a fan, Samuel Omikola, he applauded the boys for their efforts despite the loss
He said that going away to Ijebu-Ode against Gateway United was not going to come easy as it proved to be.
“Gateway United is a strong team. They are second on the table, and we are third, so it was going to be tough.
“I must commend the boys for going there and giving their all. We go again in our next match,”Omikola said.
