Ikorodu City FC, a Lagos-based football club competing in the Nigeria National League (NNL), has inked a significant shirt sponsorship deal with BetKing, one of the foremost sports betting companies in Nigeria and Africa, for the upcoming 2022/23 season. The partnership was officially announced on Thursday at an unveiling ceremony held at the KingMakers office in Lagos.
Mr. Gossy Ukawoke, the Managing Director of BetKing Nigeria, disclosed during the ceremony that Ikorodu City is the first football club the company is partnering with in Nigeria, and both parties have aspirations of achieving headline-grabbing success as “Kings” in 2023.
“This is actually the first time we’ll be sponsoring or partnering with a football club in Nigeria,” stated Mr. Ukawoke. “The deal is for the duration of the coming season and extends to all facets of the club, including the youth system, branding, and can extend to other projects of the club beyond the season.”
As part of the agreement, BetKing’s logo will feature on the home, away, and alternate kits’ match day jerseys of Ikorodu City throughout the 2022/23 NNL season.
Mr. Sanmi Doherty, the Vice-Chairman of Ikorodu City, expressed pride in the partnership, saying, “We are very proud to be associated with this brand. What caught me was the part of their brand that refers to being ‘KingMakers,’ which means as a KingMaker, you invest in things even when you’re not even so sure how they will turn out, and that is what BetKing has done with us. They have chosen to trust us, and we will not let them down.”
Ikorodu City FC, known for being the best second division club in Lagos for the last two seasons and winning the Lagos State Football Association NNL Preseason Tournament consecutively, sees the upcoming season as a significant opportunity to vie for promotion to the topflight of Nigerian football. With the support of BetKing as their shirt sponsor, Ikorodu City FC aims to make a mark in the 2022/23 NNL season and achieve their aspirations of reaching new heights in Nigerian football.
